Clients meet with me one-on-one to discuss all of their needs and wants in designing or updating their landscape. I want to develop a trusting and comfortable relationship with clients to ensure they are confident in knowing I will listen to what’s most important to you, communicate throughout the process and produce a high quality, comprehensive design.
I always start my design process by hand sketching ideas until an idea or concept draws me in. Sketching is a very important part of my design process because it allows me to create without any restrictions. Once I establish a direction and initial renderings, I transfer the sketches to a computer-aided drafting (CAD) software program. CAD software allows for quicker, easier design edits and allows me to add a greater level of information and details that are used by both the client and builder.
In our next meeting, we will go over the conceptual aspects of the design to ensure it meets your expectations and includes all of the elements we have discussed. I will explain the design, discuss key elements and steps and ensure all client questions and concerns are addressed.
After the design concept is discussed and approved, I will create the master plan document. This will be a comprehensive, CAD-generated design that will include all of the important information and notes needed to build the specifications of the design, including any changes that were discussed in the follow-up meeting. Once this is completed, the client will be provided with a copy of the master plan.
I will use the master plan to help share the vision with contractors, ensuring they are the right match for the client and the landscape design. The contractors will then submit a formal bid for my review, which I will then discuss and share with the client for approval.

Once the proposal is finalized, I will make regular visits to the design site and work closely with the lead foreman to ensure design construction runs smoothly and according to the master plan. Allowing me to work directly with the contractors ensures the client experiences streamlined and consistent communication, along with the peace of mind that I will advocate on their behalf to ensure work is true to their vision.
When the project is complete, my clients and I will do a final walk-through, explaining the details and ensuring all expectations are met. I will suggest and encourage maintenance best practices to ensure clients are satisfied with their landscape design in the future.
